This Sunday, June 5, the cyclist Luis Carlos Chía (SuperGiros Alcaldía de Manizales) won the third stage of the Vuelta a Colombia, which had a course of116.9 kilometers between Sincelejo and Montería.

In the middle of the rain, the day was defined in a sprintin which the runner from Soacha, Cundinamarca, beat Óscar Quiroz(Colombia Tierra de Atletas-GW Bicicletas), followed by Nelson Soto —also from the Colombia Tierra de Atletas team—, who completed the day’s podium.

< p class=”paragraph”>After the victory, Chía suffered an incident with his wife Claudia Roncancio, whom he ran over after crossing the finish line after she tried to take a picture of him.< /b>

The images of the transmission showed the moment in which the woman, who was in the middle of the road, tried to get away, but the ‘coffee grower’ cyclist was coming at high speed and did not manage to maneuver. Chía was able to stand up after a few seconds, however, her spouse received the worst part, as she remained on the floor apparently knocked out by the impact.

“She knew that you sprint too high. How could she not run at that moment, “said the also leader of the general classification.

The newspaper El Tiempo learned that Roncancio is under observation in a clinic, where they had to take four stitches.

The tracing was in mostly flat, ideal for sprinters to show off. Two men tried to break away: the Colombian Óscar Fernández (Team Boyacá Avanza) and the Mexican Cristopher Torres (Canel´s Zerouno Mavic), however, hopes of victory were dashed with 11km to gofor arrival. From that moment on, the Orgulo Paisa squad took the lead, increased the pace and made a selection of runners.

The work of the The Antioquia team began their individual efforts, which added to the tension due to the weather conditions. The water became a great protagonist in the decisive meters, since the wet asphalt forced the cyclists to exercise greater caution.

The first to launch an attack was Soto, who managed to gain a few meters of difference from the main group. Chía, who had been third in the second stage, responded and looked more solid than his opponent, managing to overcome him in a tight definition.

Since the start the Vuelta a Colombia, the rider from Suachuno took on the yellow jersey as leader of the general classificationl, winning the sprint of the first stage.
