In the wake of the Austrian Grand Prix, in which several very interesting duels on the track had a heavy aftermath in the commissaires’ room, there is still talk of penalties relating to the behavior of the drivers on the track. The experts are wondering if it is right to favor the show, leaving the drivers the possibility of defending the position at the cost of a few less easy overtaking, or whether to continue to reward the courage of those who throw themselves in and out to cost of imposing some sanction.
Giancarlo Minardi, today president of the Imola circuit and obviously former owner of the homonymous team, told Gazzetta dello Sport that penalties are being exaggerated. “Those dates in Austria have been too many. Unfortunately the regulation was not written well and so someone throws himself in even if there is no space and hopes in God. I would like a single judge: in a highly professional sport like this, there must be uniformity of judgment“Said Minardi.
Flexible wings, Vasseur: “Frustrating FIA decisions”
The idea of a single judge was set aside some time ago, in favor of a rotating college which, moreover, is ‘regulated’, in relation to the track experience, by a former driver. In this sense, Minardi suggests that the different personalities of each individual commissioner can influence the ‘scale’ of severity of each single event on the track.
