The municipality in Mont&élimar (Drôme) wants to prevent accidents in its hypercentre. Facing increase in the number of purchases of electric scooters, she decided to to prohibit the circulation of these vehicles in six pedestrian streets or portions of streets in from December, reports France Bleu Drôme Ardèche.
Although no serious accident involved of scooters in the town, the 24 people who died in France in 2021 at the wheel of these two wheels are enough to the municipality to take such a measure.

More than 130 euros fine
In addition, the latter does not want to mobilize its agents to control them. “Of course, on a scooter, you have to respect a certain speed, wear a helmet, a fluorescent vest, be specifically insured, but I’m not going to ask today’ municipal police to stop the scooters to find out if everything is in order,” the mayor, Julien Cornillet.
The City nevertheless explains that it wants to encourage its use elsewhere in the municipality, “but it needs a reasoned sharing; of public space,” the chosen one. At first, offenders will simply be reminded to the order but a fortiori, they will expose themselves to a fine of 135 euros.
