Morgan’s decision to withdraw from the market the iconic 3 Wheeler had taken by surprise all fans of the leading brand in the production of retro cars. The rear-mounted twin-cylinder engine that had the task of pushing the British three-wheeler was no longer able to meet the European emissions requirements, so the Malvern-based company had decided to stop its marketing. The good news is that the 3 Wheeler is now ready to return to the scene, with a new look and above all with a upgraded thruster.
It was Morgan herself who announced the giant steps taken by the 3 Wheeler in the testing phase. The British three-wheeler, which will boast a design inspired by the era of the first jets mid-century, it will not be powered by a BMW engine, which instead happens with the company’s current four-wheel models, but by a Ford-derived engine: it will be a three-cylinder in aspirated version, the same that equips several models of the US house such as the Fiesta. Morgan did not specify what the maximum power guaranteed by the engine will be, but it is expected that the specifications will be similar to that of the old 3 Wheeler, where the peak was 82 hp. Aesthetically speaking, however, the 3 Wheeler may have more than a vague resemblance to the electric EV3 revealed by the company in 2016 and never went into production due to problems with suppliers.
“We are thrilled to confirm plans for one Completely new three-wheeled Morgan, a model that continues to bring to life an incredible story that dates back to 1909 – commented Steve Morris, President and CEO of Morgan – The outgoing 3 Wheeler has been adored by customers and enthusiasts alike, so much so that it will inspire this next generation that will boast a design completely new. Morgan’s team of engineers and designers considered everything the company has learned from the decade of building and selling the previous model. We can’t wait to share more details of this exciting vehicle ”.
