Almendares, 39, was shot dead on Friday night by unknown assailants in the city of Nacaóme, where he lived, local press reported this Saturday.

The crime was perpetrated when Almendares opened the gate of his house, in the El Chagüite neighborhood, when he returned from a gym in Nacaóme, in the southern department of Valle, bordering El Salvador.

According to unofficial versions, the assassinated prosecutor was the sister of a senior officer of the Honduran Armed Forces.
