A new stage has begun in Cruz Azul. The arrival of Diego Aguirre as the team’s new technical director has renewed hopes within the cement industry. However, the first impressions that his arrival has left is that the Uruguayan’s project contemplates a particular seriousness and commitment to give and demand the best of each element within the institution.
Also known as La Fiera during his time as a soccer player, Aguirre said that nothing that has happened in recent times matters or affects the goals that he has. Neither the championship that broke a drought of more than 23 years, nor the departure of the coach who achieved such a feat just two tournaments later. In addition, he mentioned that he will evaluate each soccer player one by one to know the capital he has.

“ They are going to line up because you have to respect the hierarchies < /b>. Today begins a new era. I’m not interested in the above, it’s a new stage and from now on and I’ll make sure they play well. I am not going to talk about individual cases because I need to see them, feel them, talk to them and as I said, it is a new stage and we will analyze case by case. There are times when players do not perform in one period, but they do in another and we are going to analyze what we will do with each player”, said the new sky-blue coach in an interview for the ESPN network.

During the dialogue held with the panelists, the Uruguayan assured that they have not yet spoken with the board about possible signings for the new Liga MX Opening 2022 tournament, but he left the door open to incorporate a new player after analyzing and identify the needs of the current workforce. In the Clausura 2022, the Machine was eliminated in the playoff phase by the UANL Tigers.
“Before talking about changing, I like to give value to the players who are . I want to evaluate performance, although there is not much time. Possibly it will happen to bring a player and we will see in the following days how the team feels. There are players whose contracts are ending and our idea is to have a competitive team that tries to go for everything”, he added.
A year of poor results was enough for the board of Cruz Azul decided to end the relationship with Juan Reynoso, the coach who gave the institution its first title in the era of short tournaments, the long-awaited ninth star that took more than two decades to arrive.
The coach of Peruvian origin arrived at the cement institution in January 2021 and in his first tournament he achieved what 22 different processes could not do, he made the team champion and ended the losing streak. In addition, he qualified for the league of that tournament being the sole general leader with 41 points with just two losses in the regular season.
Cruz Azul was eliminated from Clausura 2022 by Tigres in the playoffs. They tied 1-1, but the rival’s better position in the table left them out of the league.
Now, with Diego Aguirre in charge of the cement bench, the demands were updated with the tenth league title as a goal with five axes as a base: solidarity, solidity in defense, protagonism, attitude and evoke hope.
“Being in a club like Cruz Azul fills me with pride and my commitment is to work, to give everything. We know about responsibility, in big teams you have to win and we came to try. I like to talk about things after they happen and not before”, he concluded.
