It’s been years that the media evoke the Lifi, a technology that could replace the Wifi or co-exist with it. Unlike Wifi, which uses radio waves, Lifi uses light waves and could allow for faster data transfers. But for the moment, the players in the market of smartphones have not yet adopted this technology.
The good news is that obviously, Oppo is already thinking about how he could take charge of the Lifi on its smartphones. In an article published this week, our colleagues of Android Authority turns a section of LetsGoDigital, which claims to have discovered a patent of Oppo regarding this technology.

More specifically, the patent describes a smartphone with sensors placed on the back and/or on the upper slice and that could allow the device to support connectivity Lifi. Oppo would also have imagined an isolation device that would allow communication Lifi not to be disturbed by the variations of ambient light.
The successor to the Wifi ?
If the Lifi can’t go through walls, unlike Wi-fi, this technology which makes use of lights on the other hand might allow for faster data transfers, and may also reduce the risk of network congestion.
But for the moment, there is no guarantee that Oppo is indeed in the process of developing a smartphone equipped with a module Lifi. In effect, the businesses of this size can have very many intellectual properties, but do not use them all. In any case, the patent shows that Oppo is currently anticipating the transition to this new technology.
It should also be noted that Oppo invests a lot of money in research and development. The end of 2019, it announced that it plans to spend $ 7 billion over three years in this area. And while Oppo had made its beginnings as a manufacturer of smartphones low cost for rural areas of China today, it is one of the brands most innovative in the world market for mobile.
