“Today Ukraine tries to forget, at least for 90 minutes, the tragedy that is still happening in its country. Competing for a place in the World Cup is already a difficult task. And it becomes almost impossible with so many lives at stake”, the Brazilian star wrote at the beginning of his letter.
Pelé did not hesitate to make a “request” to Putin to stop the war: “I want to use the party to make a request: stop with this invasion. There are no arguments that justify violence. This conflict, as well as others, is perverse, unjustifiable and brings nothing but pain, fear, terror and anguish. When we met in the past and exchanged a big smile accompanied by a long handshake, it was unimaginable that one day we could be as divided as we are today.”
