President Iván Duque confirmed that alias “Matamba” is dead

“I want to inform the country that, in an operation by our National Police in coordination with the Attorney General’s Office, in Bolívar (Santander), Juan Larinson Castro Estupiñán alias “Matamba”, former leader of the “Clan del Golfo” and one one of the most wanted criminals in the country”,

President Duque has just published on his Twitter account, thus confirming what was suspected weeks ago, versions that pointed out that the former paramilitary was dead.

According to the president, the former paramilitary died in the middle of a police operation.

The president’s announcement confirms the versions of his death, although it shows that he was discharged in an official operation, but, let us remember that his whereabouts were not known, after the escape from La Picota prison, last March 18, the defense of Juan Larinson Castro had already pointed out the possibility that he had been assassinated, however, it was presumed that those responsible would be other armed groups that wanted to prevent “< b>Matamba” would give them away.

Precisely the Supreme Court of JusticeShe was close to confirming her extradition order, in fact, she escaped from the extraditables pavilion of the prison located south of Bogotá, but her well-known escape took place in complicity with guards from the National Penitentiary and Prison Institute, INPEC, So far, the Prosecutor’s Office has implicated guardian Milton Libardo Jiménez Arboleda, dragoonist Jeison Bernal Novoa and assistant high school student Juan Camilo Ortiz Ruíz in this case.

On time today, the Attorney General’s Officeformally presented the indictment, where he accuses Jiménez of actively participating in the drug trafficker’s escape:

“charges were filed against Milton Libardo Jiménez Arboleda for the punishable conduct of heterogeneous competition with the crime of abuse of authority by arbitrary and unjust act, as the author by way of fraud. In the same way, a preventive detention insurance measure was imposed in a prison establishment.”

As determined by the Prosecutor’s Office, the escape occurred around midnight on March 18, at which time Juan Larinson Castro is seen dressed as an INPEC guard, leaving cell 58of the jail’s extradition pavilion The Pillory. This was achieved because the gate that guarded him was left unsecured, then he passed through the door guarded by the dragging Novoa, then, later, by radio they communicated with auxiliary Ruíz, who could fully see how the ex-paramilitary left the criminal. The call apparently had the intention of distracting Ruíz, while “Matamba” leaves the premises and boards a car with an unknown destination.

The minister of defense, Diego Molano, who assures that the death of the ‘capo’ occurred in the middle of a fight with the Police:

“Killed in combat ‘Matamba’ in an operation by the National Police and the Prosecutor’s Office in Bolívar, Santander. No one can circumvent justice in Colombia, another one of the Clan del Golfo whose criminal businesses are running out. We fight those who threaten Colombians.”

Diego Molano assures that the drug trafficker died in a confrontation with the Police.

The authorities will have to really determine what happened that early morning in March, since Angélica Martínez, Juan Larinson Castro’s lawyer , presented some petition rights assuring that the person who escaped that day was not “Matamba”, and that it made no sense for him to escape since his client was about to reach an agreement with the US justice system, where he would reveal several details, crimes and those responsible for the crimes he is accused of, among others that he would confess.

This is why the attempt to prevent them from knowing each other is suspected his versions of the events, so it was presumed that the “disappearance” had been forged inside La Picota and he would have been murdered right there, but, with the confirmation of his death by the authorities would call these assumptions into question. However, several cases could remain unsolved with the death of “Matamba”.
