Rail transport also aims to become 100% green in the coming years. This is why they are ready 700 million euros of funds to be allocated to the construction of sustainable stations in southern Italy. The plan provides for 54 stations to be redeveloped by 2026, of which 9 intermodal hubs and 45 airports: ten will see their face change already by 2024, and the first construction sites that will start at the beginning of 2022 are those relating to the stations of Macomer Oristano, Giovinazzo, Reggio Calabria Lido, San Severo, Lamezia Terme, Vasto-San Salvo, Milazzo, Palermo Notarbartolo and Sapri.
As reported by Il Sole 24 Ore on newsstands this morning, there are two lines of intervention in the program: the first involves a wide-ranging refurbishment of railway junctions of particular strategic importance – from Benevento to Bari, from Taranto to Villa San Giovanni, passing through the stations of the L2 line of the Naples underground – with the aim of improving the accessibility to rail transport and the energy efficiency of the individual stations in order to transform them into mobility hub, while the second, which concerns medium-large airports, focuses on rethinking them in order to best express their potential as a transport and service hub, integrated with the refurbishment area. Expected a mix of actions to increase the energy performance: from green plants to water reuse.
“Two tracks, therefore, but the underlying philosophy is the same and hinges on one side on improved accessibility (in primis, for people with reduced mobility), as well as comfort and architectural quality, and, on the other, on functional redevelopment, with the identification of new spaces and services, and on a decisive push in terms of environmental sustainability through the adoption of international protocols for the evaluation and optimization of the energy performance of the airports in order to have decarbonised real estate parks “, we read in today’s newspaper.
