The Italian scientist Rino Rappuoli, scientific director and research and development manager of GlaxoSmithKline (Gsk) Vaccines, will meet the researchers of the Ics Maugeri scientific clinical institutes on Tuesday 20 July. As a guest in the Irccs auditorium in Pavia, with all the Maugeri institutes in Italy connected, the expert will be the protagonist of an in-depth day on research and innovation at the service of health, organized with the patronage of the Salvatore Maugeri Foundation.
Rappuoli, born in 1952, microbiologist, is an established and internationally recognized scientist. After graduating in Siena, his career also continued in universities and research centers in the United States. A pioneer of research in the vaccine field, in 2005 the scientist received the Gold Medal of Merit for Public Health, while on 1 June he was awarded the high honor of Cavaliere del Lavoro by the President of the Republic, for his commitment in the field of research on monoclonal antibodies, one of the most promising weapons against the fight against Covid-19.
Rappuoli was invited to the ‘Researcher’s Day’, which will also be attended by the CEO Maugeri, Mario Melazzini, who will take stock of research in the 17 Italian institutes of the network, 9 of which are recognized as Irccs by the Ministry of Health, and the scientific director Walter Ricciardi, who will reflect on the importance of the alliance between public and private in research and medicine.
