Two men were tried on Wednesday before the criminal court for “serious abuse of a domestic animal ;”. They are suspected of having stolen two goats they slaughtered in the yard of their apartment building Saint-Brieuc (Côtes-d’Armor), reports The Telegram.
They plead ignorance
The facts occurred on July 13 in a natural area of the town. Believing that the animals were on the loose, the suspects would have decided to to tie them up and then place them in their vehicle. They were then slaughtered at the sight of residents who, shocked by the scene, had contacted the police.

“Yes I work in a slaughterhouse, but no one ever told us we couldn’t do that. We didn’t know it’s forbidden,” one of the defendants at the hearing. While waiting for the deliberation scheduled for December 7, the prosecutor has requested four months in prison. against them as well as the definitive ban on owning a pet.
