As he pointed out, the The initiative aims to increase the penalties associated with the crime of those who use, use or use explosive or toxic elements in carrying out extractive fishing activities, both in their fine and in prison sentences.
Likewise, it seeks to penalize whoever markets, processes, prepares, transports or stores hydrobiological resources captured or extracted with explosive or toxic elements for consideration.
Senator Núñez also recalled that this project was motivated by the finding of a dolphin in the Juan López de Antofagasta sector, in 2019, which died from the waves produced by the detonation of dynamite.
According to reports, the mammal found dead had blood in his ears and intense internal bleeding in his organs, edema in his lungs and an empty stomach.
The latter indicates, according to the experts, that the animal remained disoriented and without food for several days, as a result of an explosion.
The experts warned that fishing with dynamite is a open secret in the Juan López spa. It is used to fish for dorado, and causes a strong explosion on the seabed, which not only kills the fish, but also all the fauna in the marine ecosystem.
