On Netflix, the series Snowpiercer has just reached the mid-season. Since Monday, one can discover the fifth episode of the season that must be 10. Rather successful, it starts again from zero after the film of Bong Joon-Ho released in 2013. Surfing on the possibilities offered by this different format, the series managed already to do better than what was on the film, revealing a complex universe on board the train.
Snowpiercer, political and survivalism
For those who are not familiar with the universe of this comic strip in French, it follows the adventures of the passengers of a train that runs non-stop on a post-apocalyptic Earth. Those who are on board, the last survivors on the planet, are divided into several classes, according to their level of wealth. At the tail end of the train, riders who have managed to get on board before the end. A social hierarchy that can be heavy of consequences.
The story takes place seven years after the beginning of the route of the train. If in the film, the revolt started from the rear of the train, so rather logical, the series managed already to do better with a plot worked. It now faces two revolutions, one initiated in the tail of the train and the other in first class. Episode 5 reveals himself at this level rather fabulous in its capacity to represent the internal policies aboard the Snowpiercer. The ability of the series to detach from this, which was also his main character until there is a particularly attractive. The shadow of Wilford, which we can guess probably dead or in a drawer should continue to weigh on the next episodes. You bet, in any case, the secrecy of the situation should not hold out very long…
