The president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales , and the president of the Portuguese Federation , Fernando Gomes , ratified an agreement on Tuesday in Lisbon to promote the joint candidacy for the organization of the 2030 World Cup . According to the aforementioned agreement, both institutions agree to maintain a collaboration to improve the quality and potential of soccer in both countries through a work plan with specific annual objectives.
“This agreement represents an important step for this common project of federations, but also for the countries. Soccer, sport, is a magnificent tool to inject strength and will to overcome in these moments of great difficulty, ” Rubiales said in a press release sent by the RFEF . In this sense, the president of the Spanish Federation assured: “Few things can generate more excitement than the opportunity to organize a World Cup and we cannot think of a better partner than Portugal. We go hand in hand with the Portuguese Federation ”.
Both federations “will share experiences at a technical level, promote and strengthen integrity and encourage the formation of human capital through technical support, as well as the organization of sporting events between teams.”
Luis Rubiales and Fernando Gomes ratified the candidacy of the joint headquarters of Spain and Portugal for the 2030 World Cup
Likewise, and by virtue of the agreement signed before the 0-0 draw played this Wednesday between Spain and Portugal at the Jose Alvalade stadium in Lisbon, “technical assistance projects, strategic plans between the two federations, specific plans for coaches and female coaches, will be launched. as well as referees and referees, and the development of women's football will be promoted ”.
Regarding the joint organization of the 2030 World Cup , the agreement includes “the development of strategies for the international projection of the Spanish and Portuguese federations, as well as their countries, as candidates for the organization of the planned World Cup event for that year ”.
It is worth remembering that in 2019 the governments of Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Paraguay made official their intention to jointly apply to host it, taking into account that the First World Cup will be 100 years old, held precisely in Uruguay. According to the proposal that was detailed in May of last year in a meeting held at the Casa de la Moneda, headquarters of the Chilean Executive, it was defined that Argentina will be the country that will have the largest number of venues in the assembly of the presentation of the candidacy .
The organization will present six stadiums of Argentine soccer. In second order appears Chile, with four locations, and for Uruguay and Paraguay there would be two for each. In the event that for some reason the number of venues should be changed, it was established that Argentina would drop to five and the Chileans would do so to three.
In turn, England and China are also behind the 2030 World Cup , although neither of the two nations has made their intentions official. The deadline for submitting the candidacy ends in 2022 and the election will be held in 2024 during the FIFA Congress. By then, there will be 48 teams contesting the contest, 16 more than at present, so from the Mother House of football they promote joint presentations between countries. That is why England does not rule out partnering with Ireland , Wales or Scotland .
