Eighth place, out of 11 teams, in the constructors’ classification, with 29 points scored in 21 GPs. This is it score who registered the Haas in his first season in Formula 1, in 2016. A balance that may appear poor at first glance but which was actually very respectable for a team making its debut in the great Circus. Since then the American team has grown steadily until 2018, when it reached the fifth place in the ranking among the teams. Since then, however, the decline has been just as rapid and inexorable. Ninth place in 2019 and 2020, tenth this year in the first half of the championship, the only team still lacking points after 11 GPs.
However, Haas’ path is clear: sacrificing the current year to be able to restart in the best possible way 2022, making full use of the new technical regulation that will be introduced by F1. Looking forward to next season the team principal Gunther Steiner is well aware of the company’s ‘mission’: to go back to some place in the standings, trying to compete (and possibly prevail) against Alfa Romeo and Williams. The manager from Bolzano, interviewed by the site RaceFans, brought up the debut season. That year for the Haas team principal is not only a part of the past, but it can also become a useful point of reference for the future.
“We have a good plan to move forward – explained Steiner – And I think next year we will at least go back to where we were in 2016. I am very confident about this “. Closing eighth among the manufacturers in 2022 seems to be a rather ambitious result for today’s Haas. However, Steiner is convinced of the feasibility of his wish. “We were successful in 2016, 2017 and 2018 – added the Italian manager – sure, success in our view of the term. I know we haven’t won races, it’s all relative, but why shouldn’t we be able to do it again?”Concluded Steiner.
