The partnership between the state of the Morocco And Stellantis (formerly PSA) will extend further, thanks to the decision of the new automotive group, the result of the merger between FCA and PSA, to allocate the production of the Opel Rocks-e model to the Moroccan Kenitra plant. This car, which is the sister of the Citroën Ami, will be marketed internationally.
According to some local sources, the Moroccan government has signed a new agreement with Stellantis, more precisely a contract to expand the business already in place between the kingdom and the former PSA company. The project was launched with the signing of an agreement between PSA and the Kingdom of Morocco on 19 June 2015. The Kenitra factory, which is 53 kilometers from the capital Rabat, will acquire greater importance in the great chessboard of Stellantis as regards the production facilities, considering the multitude of brands it manages.
According to Samir Cherfran, Stellantis Chief Operating Officer for the Middle East and Africa region, Opel Rocks-e production in Morocco will benefit from an ecosystem of local suppliers and a talented and capable team. The new electric car of the German brand is equipped with a 5.5 kWh battery that can be recharged in 3.5 hours via a domestic socket. This entry-level electric vehicle can meet the current ecological mobility requirements for those who want a city vehicle without too many claims of autonomy.
