The Supreme Court ratified the review in the SEIA for the construction project of an 18-story tower on the Algarrobo coastline. The work includes 123 apartments, as well as a shopping center and a supermarket where the Hotel Pacífico was located.
The Supreme Court ratified that the construction project of an 18-story tower on the Algarrobo coastline, in the Valparaíso region, be submitted to the Environmental Impact Assessment System (SEIA).
The third chamber of the highest court confirmed the ruling that the Court of Appeals of Valparaíso issued in June, for a protection appeal presented by the Environmental Committee and Algarrobo Penguin Rescue Movement, which seeks that the project be submit to SEIA.
It is a Barlovento that contemplates the construction of an 18-story tower with 123 apartments, as well as a shopping center and a supermarket where the Hotel Pacífico was located, on the coastal edge of the commune.
Christian Paredes, a lawyer for the Terram Foundation, said that “we are talking about a sentence that is devoid of any preventive criteria, and that does not consider, not only the protected nature of the areas that is adjacent to this project”.
In the same vein, Pablo Salinas, part of the Algarrobo Environmental Committee, assured that despite the fact that the judicial instances have been exhausted, they still trust that something more can be done through the Superintendence of the Environment for the project tower.
During the entire period in which this protection resource was being reviewed by the different judicial instances , the real estate project continued in the process of construction and the sale of apartments.
