The Volleyball Federation of the Principality of Asturias has decided to abandon the Spanish Championship of Autonomous Teams at school age which is being disputed from July 15 to 18 in Valladolid and which is organized by the Spanish Federation and that of Castilla y León. The reason for this resignation is an outbreak of coronavirus on the expedition, according to the FVBPA announced in a statement.
According to the Asturian Federation, this Friday, during the celebration of a match of its women’s children’s team, a player felt unwell. When he went to the tournament doctor, he was tested for antigens with a positive result. All team members were taken to the hotel and remained in isolation until the entire expedition was tested for antigens. Of the 31 tests, 29 were negative and 2 positive (to which the previous one is added).
Due to the situation, although the tournament doctor told them that the teams could continue participating without major problems, the Asturian team decided to return home following the guidelines of “112 of the Principality of Asturias”. The toilets told him that they should “return in individual vehicles to be able to continue with the isolation (preventive in some cases) at home,” they pointed out in the statement. For its part, the tournament continues to be played normally on Saturday.
