One of the most important representatives of the Golden Age of Mexican cinema was the one who popularized the verses: “I bring you ties, volcanoes, stones, widows , bars”

The inhabitants of Mexico City are used to multiple sounds during their daily lives. From the whistle of the sweet potato cart, through the traditional: “They buy mattresses, drums, refrigerators, stoves, washing machines, microwaves, or something old iron? that they sell?”, to a peculiar song that accompanies the bicycles of the bread vendors, are some of the noises that people from the capital listen to every day.
But, for those who do not know the origin of the verses: “The baker with the bread, the baker with the bread” , we will tell you about it below.
It should be noted that this melody is usually a recording that some bakers use while walking the streets or avenues of the country’s capital, while offering in their baskets varieties of shells, bolillos, ears, among many other breads.

Thus, the origin of the melody goes back to the Golden Age of Mexican cinema, specifically to the year 1951, when the movie Oh love… how have you put me!, starring Germán Valdés, better known as Tin Tan.
According to the plot of this film, Tin Tan is a bread delivery man who lives in a neighborhood and it is during one of the times that he meets distributing his product when he sings the traditional song.
Thus, to the rhythm of: “The baker with the bread, the baker with the bread. He goes early and takes it out warm in his basket to go out with his clientele on the main streets”, the character played by Valdés delivers the food to his frequent customers.
But on one occasion, the character has an accident on his bicycle and all his merchandise falls to the ground. Later, he realizes that -during the moment before crashing- he injured a young woman named Margarita who is the daughter of a millionaire.
Tin Tan < /i>he will fall in love with the woman, but she will believe that the baker is really interested in Vitola, the domestic worker who works in his luxurious house. Likewise, another factor that will complicate the love between the two protagonists is that Don Manuel, the young woman’s father, opposes the union.
It was from that movie that the song became popular and years later it would be used by the bakers of Mexico City to promote their product, either from their bicycles, in the style of Tin Tan or even in vans.
It should be mentioned that when it comes to bread, not only can you get this item from street vendors, but also there are great bakeries in the capital of the country that have earned their renown over the years.
The bakery was founded by Spanish migrants.
Such is the case of La Vasconia, which is considered the oldest bakery from Mexico City, since it opened its doors in 1870. That is, it was inaugurated when Benito Juárez was still president of the Republic.
This site is located between the streets of the Historic Center , exactly at Tacuba number 73, on the corner of Calle de La Palma.
The business began when some migrants arrived in Mexico from Navarra, in the north of Spain . Since there was a colony of Basques in the center of the capital, they founded the bakery with that name: La Vasconia.
