The most important venues, theaters and forums in Mexico to exhibit the arts, sports or endless human expressions they keep inside impressive stories of feats, records, moments of great importance for the cultural history of a country and even dark legends that contain some tragedy.

Such is the case of the Palacio de los Deportes, where a minor old died between illusions of seeing his favorite band as close as possible, regardless of the physical barrier that separated it from Ska-P, a Spanish group of protest music.

The singer and songwriter Ricardo Delgado remembered it in his most recent book, Skaping towards madness. According to his narrative, it was on October 6, 2005 when the band in which he was the second singer and the actor of various characters mentioned in his songs, arrived in Mexico.

It was an important event. After more than 10 years fighting the system through their protest music, the greatest exponents of the genre called ska punk, decided to go on a “see you later” tour to give themselves some time, a break, live with their families, develop other creative concerns, etc.

The The chosen venue then was the Palacio de los Deportes in the Ciudad Deportiva of the still called Federal District, governed on that occasion on an interim basis by Alejandro Encinas Rodríguez, successor of Andrés Manuel López Obrador who requested his absence from office to contend for the presidency.

He also remembered that the place was full of people, and he has a clear image of everyone singing, dancing to the songs, enjoying the spectacle that could having been the last of the band. It was not known then.

However, at the end of the show they were taken directly to their dressing room to later receive bitter news, because a fan died during their concert while trying to get from the stands to the track.

The person in charge of the Ska-P performance recalled that those present tried to jump from the top to the closest area to the stage, with the aim of having within reach not only the tremendous slam that is armed with each touch, but also your favorite artists.

However, one of the fanatics, barely 13 years old had the misfortune of not landing on her feet and hitting her head which left her injured. After the intervention of the emergency services, she was immediately transferred to the hospital, but there she lost her life.

Ricardo recalled that few people remembered the event, because “the volume of the show and the adrenaline”, the fans barely gave importance to the scene that was happening behind their backs.

Furthermore, he added that the reason why they decided not to tell them during the concert, was to prevent it from stopping, and people from getting out of control, causing a negative movement of thousands of fans present in the so-called Iron Dome.

The band returned to the ring later on and returned several times to the Mexican capital, Nuevo León, Puebla, and any state they left. The Vive Latino at the Foro Sol was his home for some shows, they returned to the Palacio de los Deportes, and recently visited the Arena Ciudad de México.

Ricardo separated due to creative differences, but he did not move away from music. The renowned Spanish musician continued his struggle through another band he called The Locos where he is still building his own trench of resistance.

Ska -P is still active, but along the way they lost another of their musicians, Luismi, the drummer, who after his retirement was replaced by Iván Guevo. Since Pipi’s departure after the album “Lágrimas y Gozos”, they have released another three: “99%”, “Live in Woodstock Festival” and “Game Over”.

They plan one more and have already released a couple of singles. The first, “Dear John”, dedicated to the singer, musician and composer of The Beatles, John Lennon in response to his world famous song “Imagine”. The second premiered just this May 19 under the title “Las Flores”.
