Yuriy Kamelchuk, a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada from the Servant of the People party, pointed to the “simplest scenario” of rescuing the Ukrainian gas transmission system (GTS) after the completion of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
He believes that in the context of the implementation of this project, Ukraine needs to become a “gas hub” of Europe in order to maintain the stable functioning of the gas transportation system. Kamelchuk stressed on the air of the NASH TV channel that the country’s GTS will cease to function if there is not enough gas there.

According to him, the costs of gas supplies to Europe through the Ukrainian gas transportation system (GTS) began to grow rapidly since the first Maidan in Ukraine, in 2005. Then Ukraine from a reliable and stable transit partner turned into a weak link, Tuzov stressed.

On July 21, it became known that Germany and the United States had reached an agreement on Nord Stream 2. Thus, Berlin will take measures to support the European energy market. Germany is obliged to take measures, up to and including sanctions against Russia, if it restricts energy supplies. Germany will also allocate € 200 million to support Ukraine’s energy sector and organize a $ 1 billion fund to ensure its energy security.
At the same time, on July 22, the head of “Gazprom” Alexey Miller did not rule out the possibility of increasing the volume of gas transit through the territory of Ukraine. These issues, he said, should be resolved on market conditions and at market prices.
Nord Stream 2 is being built from Russia to Germany along the Baltic seabed with the aim of direct gas supplies to Europe. The EU countries mainly support the project and participate in its implementation. The Baltic states, Poland, the USA and Ukraine are opposed.
