The Committee against Forced Disappearance of the United Nations (UN) will visit Mexico as part of an agreement that the agency made with the federal government.

“Mexico has recognized that important challenges prevail in the matter of forced disappearances and disappearances committed by individuals, and that it is essential to reinforce policies and strategies to address them in a comprehensive manner and with the international cooperation of the multilateral system,” said the Foreign Ministry.
Both institutions work together to create a program that allows experts to have first-hand information federal and local authorities, victims’ groups, human rights defenders, civil society organizations, among other actors.
In addition, the agency indicated that the experience and good practices that the Committee has developed since its creation will contribute to Mexico’s efforts. to strengthen institutional capacities and improve techniques for investigating and searching for missing persons, as well as repairing victims.
