WhatsApp does not stop introducing improvements in its service, especially in the section of voice messages. Some of the last improvements that audios have were, for example, the possibility of change playback speed. Now, the app goes for a new function that allows transcribing them and thus convert them to text.
As revealed by the specialized site WABetaInfo, which has access to the development versions of the app, WhatsApp has a new feature to transcribe audios. Through it, it will recognize the words of an audio and it will automatically transcribe them to text to read the voice memo without listening to it.
So far, the messaging service has the possibility of transcribing voice messages, currently it is through third-party apps, such as Transcriber or Voicer, for Android phones.
Transcribe audios, at any time and without Facebook listening
One of the first questions that arise in the case of having this function enabled is how Facebook will treat the data.

The transcription of audio to text a priori will require to be analyzed by a recognition engine of the social network in order to be able to transcribe it and, as usually happens, the fear of being read. Although the company has an artificial intelligence (AI) trained for this, it appears that they would not use it this time.
As we can see in the screenshots, the recognition is carried out using the own tools that the device already brings, without apparent intervention from Facebook.
WhatsApp voice notes can be converted to text on iPhones.
In the trial version it can be seen that an iPhone is used, so a message appears indicating that the apple voice recognition. The message also warns that data can be sent to improve the system.
Once the user accepts this condition, a new section will appear in the app where the transcribed messages are and can be read. It will also be possible jump to specific parts of the message, since the transcribed text is divided into small parts marked in time.
This feature can certainly be useful when reading voice memos in situations where they cannot be heard. It is also extremely useful, of course, for people with hearing problems.
WABetainfo published the first screenshots of the WhatsApp function that promises to convert voice notes to text.
The functionality is currently under development and has no confirmed date as part of an upcoming update, according to WABetaInfo. Therefore, we will have to wait to see it implemented in the app or even in the public beta of the app to which the testers have access.
It is also necessary to see within its configuration if, if enabled, which languages the service will recognize, since only English is appreciated in the WABetainfo captures.
There are also no certainties that the project cannot be abandoned, although it is a relatively easy technology to implement and already present on mobile devices.
