YouTube Shorts allow you to create videos of up to 15 seconds
“Shorts is a new short-form video experience for creators and artists who want to shoot short, catchy videos using nothing but their mobile phones,” the company explained in its statement.
It should be noted that this is a first launch of a beta version, and that it is available, for now, only in India, a country where the use of Tik Tok was prohibited, so this option could be more than welcome for those who stayed. without accessing the ByteDance platform.
In Shorts’ presentation document, YouTube refers to the first video that was published on the platform, “Me at the zoo” (Me at the zoo). That video was published by Jawed Karim, one of the creators of the site, in April 2006. It lasts just 18 seconds and has more than 92 million views.
Somehow they want to resurrect the spirit of that first video, which in a few seconds marked the beginning of what later became a worldwide phenomenon such as YouTube. And at the same time, Shorts seeks to aggnate the site a bit by offering an option to create, edit and publish short videos directly from the cell phone, very much in the style of Tik Tok, which is a success today in the world and not only among the generation Z.
Music can be added to clips
In recent months there has been a growth of users of all ages who today choose to generate content on a platform that is quite user-friendly since without knowing too much about the digital universe, with three or four touches you can create a colorful video .
In the announcement of Shorts, YouTube highlights that this new tool is based on the following pillars:
1. Create: “Authoring is at the core of short form video and we want to make it easy and fun to create shorts. We are starting to test some new tools for creators and artists with our initial beta in India. ”
2. A multi-segment camera to be able to join multiple video clips together,

Reels, the bet of Instagram
YouTube isn’t the only one looking to emulate the spirit of Tik Tok. The first week of August, Instagram launched Reels , a tool that also allows you to create short videos, with filters and effects in a few seconds.
Reels videos can be shared in the News section and, if the user’s account is public, the Reels can also be broadcast in the “Explore” space, where there will be a large selection of content from other users.
“Reels seeks that you can express yourself while creating entertaining content for others, which can range from doing a new dance to spreading a message about an issue that you are passionate about,” explained Instagram in the statement released at that time.
