Alberta Public Health Officers are reporting 652 new COVID-19 cases. Thirty-eight people have died from illness.
Most people, anywhere in their 30s to 90s, died on a long weekend. The death toll is now 2,901 since the epidemic began.
The number of deaths reported on Wednesday is equal to the number of deaths reported on January 12, the same day.
Provincial data shows that 30 people died from COVID-19 on January 2 — the highest on a given date.

Meanwhile, the number of known active Covid-19 cases has dropped to 14,218. Here’s how they break down regionally:
- Calgary: 3,594

Alberta Laboratories has conducted 8,620 Covid-19 tests since Tuesday, with a test-positive rate of 7.65 per cent.
As of Wednesday’s update, 1,027 Albertans are receiving treatment for Kovid-19 at the hospital, including 236 patients in the intensive care unit.
Of the 791 non-ICU patients, more than 73 percent were either vaccinated or partially vaccinated. At the ICU, 93 percent of patients are either vaccinated or partially vaccinated, said Dr. Alberta, chief medical officer for Alberta Health. Deena Hinshaw said on Twitter.

There are 376 ICU beds in Alberta’s health care system.
Alberta Health Services says ICU capacity is up 75 percent, including 203 additional surge beds. Without surge beds, the capacity is at 164 percent.
Only 76 percent of Albertans 12 and older have received the two-dose Covid-19 vaccine; As of Wednesday’s update, 85.5 percent of eligible people have at least one dose of the vaccine.
Of Alberta’s entire population, including children who are not vaccinated, about 65 percent have two jabs, but 72.7 percent have their first jab.
