Anonymous race for Aston Martin, struggling throughout the Dutch weekend. Green got lost in the orange tide and both Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll closed out of the points. The worst news, however, is that the AMR21s never seemed competitive, not even in qualifying, where even Vettel was eliminated in Q1. In the constructors’ standings, AlphaTauri (thanks to 12 points from Pierre Gasly) and Alpine (in the top 10 with Alonso and Ocon) gained a lot of margin. And now to get back into the race, Aston Martin must capitalize on Monza to the fullest, a circuit where it could do better than the competition given the Mercedes engine and the conformation of the Temple of Speed. These are the words of Vettel and Stroll, respectively 13th and 12th in the Dutch Grand Prix.

Sebastian Vettel: “It was one of those Grands Prix that prove that if you start further back it is really difficult to recover, especially on a track where overtaking is so complicated given the nature of the track. I had to take a lot of risks in overtaking, but if you qualify back it’s hard to catch up. When I had some clean air in the final part of the race, the pace was very good. Given the position we started from, we tried to do something different with the strategy and I was happy with our approach“.

Lance Stroll: “Today is the demonstration of how important qualifications are, and unfortunately our race was compromised since yesterday. I got off to a good start, but I wasn’t able to make up positions. We will look at the strategy to see what else we could have done, but I don’t think we could have achieved much else. Zandvoort is a beautiful track and I’m happy to see it on the calendar, but qualifying counts a lot perhaps overtaking could be made easier“.
