L’Aston Martin is ready to continue with Sebastian Vettel also for next season. After the recent rumors that the German driver was on course with the team – to the point of even considering a retirement of the latter from competitions at the end of the championship – the British manufacturer has instead confirmed its intention of wanting to keep the four-time champion of the world as a team also for 2022.
A decisive and unquestioning will, as the team owner wanted to point out Lawrence Stroll, who explained his intentions to the microphones of the BBC: “We are happy with Sebastian – said the Canadian – it is our firm intention to continue with him for the next year and beyond. I expect an immediate response from you ”. At the end of the Italian Grand Prix, in fact, the team principal Otmar Szafnauer had indicated the subsequent test in Sochi (from 24 to 26 September) as the deadline for the official renewal or not by Vettel.
The latter, who joined Aston Martin after two complex years in Ferrari, spent a 2021 full of ups and downs, embellished by the second place in Azerbaijan and by another podium obtained in Hungary, which was then canceled following a disqualification for the small amount of fuel left in the car. Soon, therefore, it will be possible to know the future in Formula 1 of the German driver, divided between the possibility of continuing at the wheel of the English team and that of leaving the category.
While waiting to understand how Vettel will exercise his contractual options, Lawrence Stroll has meanwhile presented his project concerning the construction of the new headquarters of the team, which will rise a few steps from the Silverstone racetrack. The venue will also include a wind tunnel, and will replace the current one used by the team. The latter, created by Jordan in 1991, will be replaced by a center enriched by the presence of wellness centers, simulators and restaurants. Stroll wanted to specify the importance of this investment, which amounts to 150-200 million pounds e “It shows my confidence in the team, and confirms my ambitions in Formula 1”.
