The opposition in Belarus remains under great pressure: a court in Belarus has sentenced the well-known regime critic Maria Kolesnikova to eleven years in prison.
Minsk – The Belarusian opposition activist Maria Kolesnikova * was sentenced to eleven years in prison almost a year after her arrest in the course of the protests against the ruler Alexander Lukashenko. According to the Belarusian state media, the court announced this on Monday in Minsk. The federal government had also repeatedly called for the former Stuttgart cultural manager to be released.
Kolesnikova’s former lawyer Maxim Snak was sentenced to ten years in prison, an opposition media reported on Monday.
