The dream of owning a car can cost much more in Brazil than in other countries. This is what reveals a study conducted by the British Scrap Car Comparison consultancy. The company crossed the population’s average income data with the values charged for 0 km vehicles and the costs related to its maintenance and found that Brazil is the fifth most expensive country to have a new car.
“To find out where are the cheapest and most expensive countries to own a car, we take the average car costs (for the same car models) and add them to the average cost of car insurance, repairs and current fuel prices to evaluate how expensive it is to own and drive a car around the world”, explains the consultancy. These costs were weighted against the average annual earnings in each country, to give a fair measure of affordability – allowing us to calculate the percentage of a country’s average annual salary needed to own a car,” adds the consultancy’s note.
