The Venezuelan Prosecutor’s Office says it is redoubling its efforts against these crimes.
The Venezuelan Prosecutor’s Office reported 1,494 cases of pedophilia between January and so far in November this year, Attorney General Tarek William Saab reported this Thursday.
“We want to open a debate on this matter, in view of the increase on a global scale (…) we are preparing a proposal to reform the Lopnna (Organic Law for the Protection of Boys, Girls and Adolescents) that is focused fundamentally in updating crimes of a sexual nature”, Saab explained in a broadcast on the state channel VTV.
He added that the objective is to increase the penalties for crimes of sexual abuse and exploitation against minors, as well as the dissemination of pornographic material, provided for in the Special Law against Computer Crimes.

The Prosecutor’s Office launched the campaign “Pedophilia is a Crime” last August, with which it seeks to combat this crime and protect minors from “sexual predators”.
Saab said that so far 260 training and awareness activities have been carried out throughout the country, with the participation of 13,175 people including students, teachers, parents and representatives.
& #8220;This is a formidable campaign, with great impact, which cannot stop, regardless of whether or not we are in school. The instruction that I have given to all our staff is that this campaign must be permanent, we must educate on this matter”, he added.
On the other hand, the prosecutor reported that this year they have registered 341 cases of bullying, of which the crime with the highest incidence is that of injuries with 207 cases, followed by threats with 34, harassment with 30 cases and fights with 28.
He also said that 138 adolescents They have been charged and 11 convicted.
