“I went back to Cuba to prepare conditions to come (to Mexico) and the producer called me one day, it was a Wednesday at seven in the night, and he tells me: ‘César, I’m very sorry, but I can’t bring you, the management of Televisa doesn’t want you to be here because there was a problem a year ago with Verónica Castro, a program on La Movidathat was done in Havana’ and finally feelings could be moved against me for being Cuban”, he explained.
Évora narrated that the arguments exposed seemed “absurd” to him, so he decided to do what was necessary to fix the situation.
In this sense, he took a flight to Mexico the next day and reported that he only bought the trip of idea, moreover, that he only had USD 40. After getting lodging, he went to Televisanot expecting that it would end up in a meeting with Emilio Azcárraga.
“He brings me before a group of gentlemen, I didn’t know who was who. I knew who the boss was, it was Mr. Azcárragaand his entire work team was there and he said to me: ‘You, what do you have to say?’ . I finished talking with the man, he looked at his team and told me: ‘You’re staying on a 4-year exclusive contract for so long, is that okay with you?’”, recalled Évora.
The actor mentioned that Azcárraga was always very kind to him and after the meeting they had on that occasion, he not only paid for the hotel where he was staying, but gave him an advance and helped him buy his ticket back to Cuba, so that he could fix what was missing and move permanently to Mexico.

“Whenever Mr. (Azcárraga) passed through the forums and I remember him very much in this company walking and visiting scenes, he always greeted me with affection and respect, telling me: ‘Very well, Évora’ and he shook my hand. One day, precisely in this forum, he stopped and told me: ‘Those two are Cubans, they work with me in New York,’ and he told them: ‘Look at this, he’s really Cuban, not you two who are sons of his ching *da madre’”, he sentenced.
