WASHINGTON.- The United States reached 31,343,559 confirmed cases of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus on Tuesday and 563,421 deaths from the covid-19 disease, according to the independent count from Johns Hopkins University.
This balance at 20:00 local time (00.00 GMT on Wednesday) is 917 more deaths than on Monday and 79,980 new infections.

California is now the state hardest hit by the pandemic with 60,539 deaths, followed by New York (51,258), Texas (49,289), Florida (34,120), Pennsylvania (25,451), New Jersey ( 24,945) and Illinois (23,826).

Other states with a large number of deaths are Georgia (19,548), Ohio (18,917), Michigan (17,657), Massachusetts (17,413) or Arizona (17,105).
In terms of infections, California has 3,705,608, followed by Texas with 2,837,160, third is Florida with 2,134,914, New York is fourth with 1,967,248 and Illinois is fifth with 1,285,298.
The provisional death toll -563 thousand 421 – far exceeds the lower limit of the initial estimates of the White House, which in the best of cases projected between 100 thousand and 240 thousand deaths due to the pandemic.
The president of the United States, Joe Biden, has predicted that in total more than 600 thousand people will die in the country because of the virus.
For its part, the Institute for Health Metrics and Assessments (IHME) of the University of Washington, whose models for predicting the evolution of the pandemic are often set by the White House, estimates that by July 1, some will have died. 610,000 people.
Regarding vaccines, some 122.3 million people (36.8% of the population) have received at least one dose, of which 75.3 million (22.7%) are already fully inoculated, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
