In recent days, Elon Musk has been very active on Twitter, more than usual. As we know, this CEO with multiple hats is crazy about this social network and very often uses it to make official announcements. Regarding SpaceX, Musk said Starship’s SN8 prototype is expected to be completed in the coming days and also plans to fly to 60,000 feet (around 18 km) without delay.
What interests us now is the CEO’s second baby: Tesla. Indeed, Elon Musk has just announced that “a lot of exciting things” will be revealed during the next Battery Day which will take place on September 22. Following this announcement, speculation is rife. Several times postponed, Battery Day will therefore finally take place virtually. At this event, Tesla is expected to develop its plan to secure the supply of battery cells to support its ambitious ramp-up of electric vehicle production. In this plan, Tesla developed its own process for manufacturing batteries called Roadrunner.
The rumors are rife.
The Roadrunner project, which consists of its in-house designed battery cell manufacturing system to increase production volume and reduce costs is expected to be further highlighted during the upcoming event. Roadrunner now has its own factory next to the Fremont Gigafactory. If Roadrunner should occupy a predominant place during the next Battery Day, much speculation is coming out from all parts on the web.
We know, for example, that Tesla is expected to unveil the Model S Plaid as early as next summer, but we still don’t know if this model will use a battery from the Roadrunner project. Battery Day might be the right time for such an announcement. Other rumors evoke the unveiling of a new interior for the Model S / X, improvements for the Model Y, the return of the Roadster… We just have to wait a few more days.
