Last Friday, May 27, the Colombian Attorney General’s Office released statistics on active cases for crimes related to legislative and presidential election days, counted since February 2022.
According to the attorney general, Francisco Barbosa, as of Tuesday there were 573 active cases. Of these, they reported that there are 564 under investigation, 5 under investigation and 4 under trial. In addition, of these cases, 23 correspond to conduct against candidates for the presidency or vice presidency.
“The most investigated crimes are: voter corruption (101 events), voter constraint (93), voter fraud (69), threats (58), voter fraud (49), threats against human rights defenders and public servants ( 29), alteration of electoral results (27), disturbance of the democratic contest (25), insult (12), slander (11) and damage to another’s property (7)”, reports the accusing entity.
Of the 23 cases of crimes against presidential candidates, according to the Caracol Radio station, 6 would have been committed against the vice-presidential candidate for the Historical Pact, Francia Márquez Mina.
Five of the accusations, which already have criminal news, correspond to alleged insults and slander against the social leader, and one more is associated with a threat against her integrity.
However, the judicial system is not presenting progress in the cases of aggression against France, because the alleged implicated have not even been called for a hearing or conciliation.
The cases
One of the cases of insult and slander would be carried out this March 30 by the councilor of Bogotá Rafael Amín Martelo, known as Papo Amín and elected by the Democratic Center.
This politician assured through his social networks that Gustavo Petro is the candidate of the FARC and Francia Márquez, that of the National Liberation Army (ELN). Far from retracting, he reaffirmed it before the media and demanded that the candidates go out and reject the support of insurgents, which they did a long time ago.
“What I am saying is in accordance with what the FARC said recently, which expressed its support for the candidate Gustavo Petro. Yesterday we saw on the ELN page also expressing its sympathy for the candidate Francia Márquez. What I am saying in the trill is that they are the candidates,” said Amin.

The second case corresponds to the criminal lawyer and former director of the CTI of the Prosecutor’s Office, Julián Quintana, who claimed the same as Amín through his social networks.
“The ELN is with @FranciaMarquezM. Terrorism wants to take over the country,” Quintana said.
When he was confronted about it and his criminal story was created, Quintana insisted.

The third case is against the right-wing activist Gustavo Rugeles, who revealed in April passed the location of one of the sons of the social leader and related him to the Cuban government.

After France confronted him for putting his son in danger with his words, Rugeles responded to the candidate with a series of questions that became a thread on Twitter.

Is it false that you were in Havana together with Piedad Córdoba? Is it false that you began your political career in the Patriotic March, the FARC party led by Piedad Córdoba? Is it false that he appears in photos with the hooded men, kidnappers and torturers of ‘First Line’? Is it false that the ELN expressed support for you on your page? Is it false that you have links with Angela Davis, the communist leader of the Black Lives Matter and Black Panther movements in the US and Europe?
