Naomi Watts will star and executive produce the English-language remake of Goodnight Mommy, the Austrian-made psychological thriller directed by Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala.Amazon Studios will distribute the film in collaboration with the independent label Animal Kingdom and the production house Playtime, who bought the exploitation rights.

Released in 2014, the original film became a cult film, making it to the Academy Awards thanks to a nomination in the category Best foreign film.
Matt Sobel (“Take Me To The River”) will direct the film from a script by Kyle Warren. David Kaplan, Joshua Astrachan, Valery Guibal and Nicolas Brigaud-Robert will appear in the production. In addition to Watts, the directors of the original film Severin Fiala e Veronika Franz they will be executive producers.
Goodnight Mommy follows the story of two twin brothers who one day find themselves in front of their mother, who returned home after plastic surgery, with her face covered in bandages. The woman’s attitude, however, becomes more and more unusual and unstable, which leads the twins to believe she is a cheat. Their suspicion generates a flow of misunderstandings and discussions that will then have poignant and irreparable consequences.
