In today’s Formula 1 it is difficult to find two more distant drivers, in terms of public image and way of interpreting the role of the driver, of Lewis Hamilton And Kimi Raikkonen. The recent announcement made by the Finnish driver, who communicated to the world that he wanted to leave the Circus at the end of this year, however, led the Mercedes driver to pay tribute to his veteran colleague, revealing an unusual link between the two. Speaking on the eve of the Zandvoort weekend in fact, Hamilton confessed that he was somewhat a Raikkonen fan before entering Formula 1 in the 2007 season.
“I remember that before arriving in Formula 1, in computer games I was always in Kimi’s car – joked the reigning world champion, recalling his adolescence – so I then had this crazy experience of racing against him, losing a championship with him and then [avere] a lot of big battles [con lui]. We’ll miss him“. Yes, because Hamilton’s first season ‘among the greats’ was marked precisely by the rivalry with his then box mate Fernando Alonso and – obviously – with Raikkonen. The Espoo native, who switched to Ferrari from McLaren precisely to make room for the future ‘The Hammer’, won the championship at the end of the year, mocking the Hamilton-Alonso duo by one point.
