When there are only three days left for the presidential elections, the registrar Alexander Vega, installed the International Electoral Observation Mission that will be monitoring the presidential elections on May 29. On that occasion, hours after the polls closed, several complaints from political parties and ordinary people about the irregularities at the time of counting the votes began to be known. Moreover, the Electoral Observation Mission (MOE) indicated that the Registrar’s Office incurred three major technical failures during the legislative elections.
The first problem would have occurred during the vote count, since there was a lack of training for the voting jurors by the National Registry. The second error, indicated the EOM, would be related to the design of the E-14 form – a document in which the votes for each candidate or political party are recorded- while the third error was based on< b> the carelessness and mistakes of those in charge of counting the votes.

During the official event held this Thursday, the national registrar assured that all the guarantees so that next Sunday’s elections take place normally: “There can be no fraud because there are several actors involved in the electoral process (the Registrar’s Office, the political parties, the scrutinizing commissions, the CNE, the control organisms) . The entire process is susceptible to traceability and any inconsistency, whether intentional or in good faith, is detectable in the scrutiny. For this reason, there is no possibility of electoral fraud in Colombia”, he explained.
Vega also assured that one of the measures adopted to avoid the problems of the past elections, was the extension of the term for the nomination of electoral witnesses by political parties. Deadline that expires tomorrow.
The Registrar’s Office also reported that one day after the deadline for the nomination of witnesses, so far, the political movements participating in the presidential elections have nominated 67,377 people. The coalition of the Historical Pact has registered 45,986, Team for Colombia 19,527, Anti-Corruption Leaders League 707, Hope Center 563, National Salvation 388 and Just Free Colombia 206.

Regarding the role that electoral witnesses can play during election day, The national government issued Decree 830 of 2022, which stipulates that they have access to the voting booths from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. m. and they may remain until the time the counts of the polling station or polling stations for which they are accredited are concluded.
Electoral witnesses may enter the polling station with cell phones, mobile terminal equipment or voice or video recording elements. However, they cannot be used inside the polling station, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. m. and 4:00 p.m. m.
Finally, the decree recalls that electoral witnesses cannot make any insinuations to voters, nor accompany them to the voting booth. Nor can they manipulate electoral documents.
