The leader of the FARC dissidents would have died in Venezuela, the victim of an attack by the group led by Iván Márquez
President Iván Duque spoke about the death of Gentil Duarte from Switzerland.
At the end of his agenda at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, President Iván Duque gave his first statements on the alleged death of Gentil Duarte, leader of the FARC dissidents who they operate from Venezuela.
“For Colombia it is always great news that symbols of evil continue to go out of circulation. So this is good news for Colombia and of course all the symbols of evil must disappear”, were the words of President Duque to the media in Davos (Switzerland).
The announcement of the death of Miguel Santanilla Botache, 58, head of the so-called dissidence FARC-EP, which was killed in Venezuela by men from the criminal structure called Segunda Marquetalia, commanded by Iván Márquez, was killed by Defense Minister Diego Molano on the morning of May 25.
According to military intelligence information, on May 4, during the early hours of the morning, apparently members of the Second Marquetalia violated the security of the Gentil Duarte camp, managing to infiltrate and install an explosive element that ended the life of the maximum leader of the dissidents and three other people, among whom there would be a minor according to information from El Tiempo.
The youngest would be alias Salomé, who had been in the service of criminality for several months. As it was known, the woman was his sentimental partner and was hiding with Gentil Duarte and other criminals of Colombian origin.
It is worth remembering that Genti Duarte had managed to escape from a military operation that took place in San Vicente del Caguán, Caquetá, in July 2021. Although the subject was seriously injured, he was not captured by the authorities. On that mission, 12 more people lost their lives.
In Venezuela, according to the newspaper El Tiempo, they received the protection of alias Jhon Mechas, leader of the dissidents of the 33rd front. However, the help of the other criminal was not enough for Gentil Duarte to come out well this time.
Now, it is presumed that the dissidence led by the criminal would be under the command of Néstor Vera Fernández, alias Iván Mordisco, the first dissident of the peace agreement between the Government Colombian and the former FARC guerrilla.
Who is Iván Mordisco?
Néstor Gregorio Vera, known as Iván Mordisco, is remembered as the first guerrilla to openly oppose the peace process carried out between the FARC guerrillas and the National Government in 2016. After this, and with the self-styled First Front, Iván Mordisco controlled the departments from Guaviare, Vaupés, Meta, Caquetá and Vichada, being one of the most visible heads of the Farc dissidence along with alias Gentil Duarte.
He has been in the subversive world for more than 20 years and since joining as a low-ranking guerrilla, Iván Morsdico stood out for his skills as a sniper and operator of explosives, which is why he was able to lead the First Front for the first time in 2008, due to that whoever was the commander at the time was captured.
After this Iván Mordisco became an important figure for the guerrilla structure, even when the peace process began and ended with the signing, because the commander constantly opposed the agreement that the FARC-EP was reaching with the Government of Juan Manuel Santos, which is why he declared himself in rebellion and began with the creation of one of the many dissidences that resulted after 2016.
As a commanding figure within the narco-terrorist group, Iván Mordisco exponentially increased illicit crops in the border areas where he extended his power, in the same way the resurgence in the forced recruitment of indigenous and peasant children has the mark of the bloodthirsty Néstor Gregorio Vera.
Regarding the Second Marquetalia, Mordisco’s relationship has been tense, since from the beginning there were disputes with the band led by Jesús Santrich, some versions even pointed out that e he homicide of the guerrilla commander became the responsibility of Iván Mordisco, as they are now blaming the Second Marquetalia for the alleged death of Gentil Duarte.
