During the Goodwood Revival event there will be the (British) debut of the two-seater coupe Radford based on the Lotus Type 62, and named 62-2. The limited edition car was shown on the official social channels of the brand, recently rescued from oblivion, with a livery John Player Special which is a nice blast from the past for all fans of Formula 1 and beyond.
The Lotus JPS is part of the history of the F1 championship thanks to the successes obtained in the 70s and 80s, in particular thanks to Emerson Fittipaldi, Mario Andretti and Ayrton Senna. Radford, on the other hand, is a famous British coachbuilder whose current activities are supported by some important partners in the fields of sport (Jenson Button), entertainment (Ant Anstead) and engineering (Mark Stubbs). The edition of the 62-2 will be made on 62 specimens, 12 of which will be precisely with the black-gold livery.
At launch there will be three specs: “Classic”, “John Player Special” and “Gold Leaf”. They will all feature a Toyota-derived 3.5-liter supercharged V6 shared with Lotus’s new Emira. There will be a possible choice between six-speed manual transmission or seven-speed dual clutch. The John Player Special got an upgraded supercharger that increases power to 600hp. Its exterior style is also slightly different, thanks to a larger front splitter, and modified air intakes and rear diffuser for aerodynamic purposes.
The body shop founded by Harold Radford in 1948 had accompanied the main cars of the most popular British brands for many years, from Bentleys to Rolls-Royces, from Aston Martins to Minis, with very special versions. They were very popular in the 1960s, with clients such as the Beatles. During the golden years, mainly between 1960 and 1970, Radford had specialized in the station wagon versions of Aston Martin and Mini, and also collaborated with Ford on the development of the GT40, thanks to the production of a prototype version in fiber. of glass.
