Justice ordered Santos to pay 4.4 million reais (about $ 800,000) to Argentine Jorge Sampaoli after his controversial departure from the Brazilian club, local media reported on Monday. Santos’ fifth labor court accepted the lawsuit brought by Sampaoli after leaving the club last year, although the decision may be challenged.
The Argentine demanded the payment of a series of labor guarantees , as well as the premium of the team’s classification in the 2020 Copa Libertadores , among others, rights that had been denied by Santos when considering that Sampaoli had breached a clause of the contract.
Santos argues that the current Atlético Mineiro coach submitted his resignation on December 9, a day before a termination clause of 10 million reais (about $ 1.7 million) expired, which had to be paid in the event that either party decided to break it before its conclusion, at the end of 2020.

The lawyers of the former Argentine and Chilean national team confirmed in court that the Argentine’s departure was only made official on December 11 , so the contractual clause was not breached .
