In the constructors’ championship, the series of overtaking and counter-overtaking in the standings does not seem to concern only the duel at the top between Mercedes And Red Bull, but also the head to head that is pitting two historical rivals like McLaren and Ferrari for the third position. The Dutch round smiled at the reds, capable of taking home 16 points overall, against the only point gained by the Woking team. Paradoxically, however, the papaya team tried to look at the positive side of this result. In fact, after yesterday’s qualifying, also considering the difficulty of overtaking on this track, placing even just one car in the top-10 did not seem obvious.
Norris and Ricciardo crossed the finish line one after the other, with the Englishman preceding his Australian teammate once again. The rider from Perth, commenting on his race, also pointed the finger at a strategy that was not optimal for him: “We got stuck behind the Alpines. They were saving the tires and I was trying to stay with them. Once they opened the gap, however, I didn’t have their pace – Ricciardo admitted – we put on the hard tire and tried to get some rhythm. We also tried to execute a team strategy to maximize points, which cost me some race time. I think in the end the pace wasn’t that good. We struggled a bit, for different reasons, in the first and second stint. We were tenths at one point, but it was hard to imagine going much higher than that. Obviously I would have liked to score some points, but we will analyze everything and learn from this “. Ricciardo also explained that he had to start using the ‘reserve’ clutch, due to a problem with the steering wheel lever used regularly.
Lando Norris is more satisfied, and not only for the little point collected. In fact, according to him, the pace of the MCL35M was not that bad. “Tenth place itself is disappointing, but on the other hand it’s a good result because I didn’t think we could have done much more starting from 13th. It’s a difficult track to overtake on, but we had a good pace, we had a good strategy and I think we have to be happy with this point. I think it’s the best we could have done today. Maybe if we had started in a better position and done a better job yesterday, we could have gotten some more. We will use this result to return even stronger to Monza”He concluded.
