Meghan Markle : a moving video about his past resurfaced By Lola Leger
Eight years later, his words still resonate… Whereas the police violence against people of color rage, an old video where Meghan Markle talks about his crossbreeding has surfaced on the web.
Monday, may 25, 2020, George Floyd was the death suite to a control of police in Minneapolis, Minnesota. On the video that has become viral, you could see so clearly the Afro-American to be maintained strength on the ground by a police officer jammed her knee on his throat. If these images have shocked the whole world, they have also highlighted police violence. While demonstrations have taken place a bit everywhere in the United States, numerous celebrities have used their power on the social networks to educate their followers on racism.
In the margins of demonstrations against police violence following the death of George Floyd, a video dating back to 2012 where Meghan Markle spoke about her own experience of racism has surfaced. In this video from the campaign, I Won’t Stand For with the charity Erase the Hate, the duchess of Sussx explained : “I am biraciale. Most people do not know what is my miscegenation, and a large part of my life was like trying to make me discrete. Some insults or jokes can be very offensive as I’ve heard, I was just hit very strong.” With emotion, the former star of the series Suits added : “a few years ago, I heard someone call my mother the N word (Nigger : negro in French). So, I think, that beyond being personally affected by racism, just see the landscape of our country at this time, and certainly of the world, makes me want things to get better.“
“I’m really proud of my heritage on both sides,”
If Meghan Markle has had to accept his skin color to the British by marrying prince Harry, she wanted to already in 2012 we see things change : “Some people do look at me and not see me not as a black woman, or a woman biraciale… They treat me differently, but it would be different if they knew what was my interbreeding, and I don’t know, I think this may be a fight as much as this can be a good thing depending on who you have in front of you.” Full of hope, the mother of Archie added : “I’m really proud of my heritage on both sides, I’m really proud of where I come from. I’m really proud of where I come from and where I’m going. But yes, I hope that by the time I have children, people will be more open to how things evolve-and have a world that is mixed, and it is. I want to say that this makes it more beautiful and interesting.“
