The second edition of the ‘Together for mental health‘, promoted by Lundbeck Italia to turn the spotlight on the need to focus on people with disorders, promoting their integration, respect and social inclusion. The campaign will end on World Mental Health Day on 10 October.
In Italy, every year, one in 4 people suffer from a mental disorder. Despite the numbers, these people and their loved ones are frequently victims of isolation and prejudice. Prejudices that impact on daily life, on social, educational opportunities and current and future job prospects. To overcome these disparities, and to ensure that those suffering from mental disorders and their loved ones are fully integrated in all aspects of life, it is first of all necessary to break prejudices: phrases, behaviors and preconceptions dictated by the lack of knowledge of these pathologies.
“We are happy – he says Massimo Di Giannantonio, president of the Italian Psychiatry Society (Sip) – to have joined the mental health awareness campaign again this year. These disorders have an impact on families, but also on society as a whole, primarily on the workplace. The time has come to consider mental health as a priority, trying to overcome the stigma that still too often hovers when it is the mind, the brain and the person who get sick“.
