The Philadelphia Phillies announced they have fired manager Joe Girardi and named bench coach Rob Thomson as interim manager through the end of this season.
The Phillies entered Friday with a 22-29 record, in third place and 12.0 games behind the leading Mets in the National League East.

“It has been a frustrating season for us so far as we feel our club has not played up to our capabilities”, he said in a statement the president of operations of b&eacu Phillies baseball Dave Dombrowski.
Thomson has been with the Phillies since late 2017, serving as bench coach and coordinating team workouts.
Soon Over two seasons in charge of the Phillies, Girardi went 132-141 with the team. In 14 starts as a major league manager with the Marlins (2006), the Yankees (2008-17) and the Phillies (2020-22), he has an overall record of 1120-935.
