Britain was shrouded in grief. Prince Philip wished for a ‘less bloated’ military-style ceremony |
According to the palace, a funeral mass will be held in St. George’s Chapel in Windsor. The ceremony will be preceded by a nationwide minute of silence at 15:00 (16:00 CET). It will be a ceremonial, not a state funeral, and will therefore take place without public access. There will be an eight-day state mourning in Britain before the funeral.

The Royal Palace also stated that the number of mourners would be limited to thirty. The service will be held in accordance with the restrictions imposed due to the spread of covid-19. In this context, members of the royal family, including the queen herself, are expected to wear protective equipment.
According to a Reuters agency, a spokesman for Buckingham Palace also confirmed, among other things, that the grandson of the late Harry, who now lives in Los Angeles, intends to attend the funeral. But his pregnant wife Meghan will not come on the advice of her doctor.
The son of the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles, highly praised his late father on Saturday and thanked the public for their participation. “I think for the past 70 years my father has provided a very remarkable devotional service to the Queen, my family, the country and also to the whole community,” the prince told reporters.
“My dear father was a very special person, who would be especially surprised by the reactions and touching things that were said about him, and from this point of view, we, my family, are deeply grateful for all this,” said Charles, among others.
