The candidate recycled an old video in which he presented his proposals and shared it through a Facebook Live
The candidate said that the time allowed to speak in the debates is too short.< p class=”paragraph”>The candidate for the Presidency of Colombia for the League of Anti-Corruption Rulers movement, Rodolfo Hernández Suárez, once again aroused controversy for absenting himself from the debate on Caracol Televisión this Friday, May 27, an event to which he was invited along with the other candidates most likely to participate. win the elections: Gustavo Petro, Sergio Fajardo and Federico Gutiérrez.
The engineer from Santander made the decision not to attend any more debates in the media since last Monday the 23rd, although he has attended exclusive interviews in several media outlets. The candidate had already confirmed his attendance at the debates organized by El Tiempo and Semana —which took place on Monday the 23rd—, that of Grupo Prisa —which took place on Thursday the 26th— and that of the national channel.
< p class = “paragraph”>During Monday’s event, Hernández broadcast live from Tunja (Boyacá) where he went to receive support from various political sectors. He excused himself with Vicky Dávila, the director of Semana, two hours before the start of the debate. While the candidates were arguing, the engineer was seen eating a mango next to Senator-elect Jonathan Ferney Pulido Hernández, also known as Jota Pe Hernández, who announced on Sunday, May 22, that he will support the League’s candidate.
Once the debate was over, on Tuesday the 24th, the candidate criticized that the El Tiempo y Semana event was loaded with personal attacks among the candidates who did attend. In addition, he said that the proposals discussed had already been published in interviews and that the policy was not to know everything, but to rule with people in mind.
“For all this, I have made the decision not to attend the debate on Thursday the 26th, as a call to the other candidates not to contribute to that show of egos and attacks such as the debate last Monday.” announced on his Twitter account.
On Thursday morning, the 26th, while the candidates participated in the Grupo Prisa radio and press debate, Rodolfo Hernández was on a media tour. Precisely in one of those interviews, on the music radio station Bésame, he aroused controversy due to his response to the question of the role of his wife in his eventual presidency.
“Nerd. It is good that she makes the comments and supports from home. The woman, involved in the government, people do not like because they see that she is invasive, that she was not the one they chose: they chose her, it was her husband. So, if there is something she has to tell me, Socorro, my wife, she will tell me at home. “Man, I’m looking at that, let’s analyze that.” But not being stuck there with a car, a driver, advisers, spending money for the citizens. We are not for that. It’s up to this next government to get its act together, to save money,” Hernández responded.
This Friday, with a couple of hours left before the start of the debate on the national channel, journalists from that medium confirmed that the candidate from Santander had canceled his participation at the last minute. At 6:40 p.m., the candidate posted a video on his social media to invite his followers to a live broadcast — which he called “a debate with the people” — from his Facebook account at 7:30 p.m. at night —the same time as the debate—.
The broadcast was a pre-recorded video —the candidate said at one point “today is April 3”—, of approximately 30 minutes, in which he presented his proposals on education, health, employment and road infrastructure. The piece was issued twice consecutively on his account.
