Slovenian Primoz Roglic (Jumbo Visma) is the first roja shirt of the 76th Vuelta Espana. The Olympic champion of the specialty won the inaugural time trial, sunset ride along a spectacular and picturesque city route in Burgos. Behind the former jumper with the trampoline is placed the surprising beret Alex Aramburu (Astana Premier Tech), 6 ″ behind. To complete the Slovenian triumph, the national champion against time Jan Tratnik (Bahrain Victorious) finished third 8 ″ behind the winner.
The 7,100 meters of the track included an uphill start with the passage after 1.8 km to Alto de Castillo, valid as the first GPM of the race. The partial success of Roglic’s squire, the American Sepp Kuss, allowed Jumbo Visma to fill up with leader jerseys.
Today a stage for sprinters is staged. There are 167 kilometers from Calaruega, home of San Domenico di Guzman, to Burgos which will thus celebrate even more worthily the great departure assigned to it coinciding with the 800th anniversary of the construction of the cathedral. Considering the difficulties scheduled for Monday in the third stage, let’s expect a quiet day.
