The qualifying formats change but, unfortunately for Mick Schumacher is Nikita Mazepin, the performances of the Haas. In fact, the American single-seater was the slowest even in qualifying held exceptionally on Friday evening at the Silverstone circuit. The two drivers finished in last and penultimate position and will therefore start from the back of the grid in the Sprint Qualifying scheduled for today. The new structure of the weekend, however, could allow both of them to gnaw what position on the opponents, perhaps exploiting the mistakes of others.
Sprint qualification: Steiner catechizes Schumacher and Mazepin
“It was a somewhat positive day, because we made some changes that worked well – explained Schumacher at the end of the day – but obviously the pace we have is unfortunately that. Of course we could have improved something here and there, but in general it was not possible to enter Q2. However, the work is not done yet. It was interesting to see how excited everyone was to try something new – added the German driver – and also I can’t wait to see how the Sprint Qualifying will go. They represent a possibility for us: if some cars have problems, we could take advantage of it. As long as we are in the race, we will be in contention to start a little further, so let’s keep our fingers crossed “.

Nikita Mazepin also found some positive aspects, despite the last position on the grid: “It was one of our best qualifying performances in terms of balance– commented the Russian – after having a very frustrating second race in Austria it was great to get this. I have great memories from Formula 2 here last year when I won my first race. There are many similarities and I must say that I really like this environment. In general I like how the weekend goes and I think it’s enough to see how many people came to see us on Friday: I’ve never seen so many before. So it was really good to be on the track“.
