Tel Aviv – The effectiveness of the Biontech / Pfizer corona vaccine has decreased significantly in Israel in the past few weeks. The country’s Ministry of Health announced on Monday evening (July 5). At the same time, the more contagious Delta variant of the corona virus * spread in Israel.
Corona vaccination: According to Israel, the effectiveness of Biontech / Pfizer has fallen to 64 percent
In February, the Ministry of Health announced that the vaccine from Biontech / Pfizer * prevented corona disease by 95.8 percent. The occurrence of symptoms such as fever and breathing difficulties are prevented by 98 percent. Hospital stays, serious illnesses and death even up to around 99 percent.
Since June 6, the effectiveness of the vaccination in preventing corona infection * in Israel has fallen to 64 percent. This is also the case when preventing a disease with symptoms. However, according to the Israeli Ministry of Health, the vaccination still fends off serious illness and hospital stays up to 93 percent.
Corona in Israel: Delta variant is spreading – no death for around two weeks
Because of its successful vaccination campaign, Israel is considered a model country in the fight against the corona pandemic *. Out of around 9.3 million inhabitants, 5.7 million people received the first vaccination, 5.2 million have already been fully vaccinated. Nevertheless, the number of new corona infections has increased significantly for two weeks.
According to the Ministry of Health, a total of 501 new corona cases were registered in Israel on Monday (July 5). Most recently, more than 500 new infections were detected in one day in March. Many of the infected are therefore younger people. Most of the infections are related to the delta variant *. However, it should also be mentioned that not a single death related to the coronavirus has been registered in Israel for around two weeks.
Corona expert Doro Steitz is also doing this at the news broadcaster ntv attentive. The effectiveness of 64 percent found in Israel does not mean that many people there become seriously ill or even die.
